Rosemary – Rosmarinus officinalis

April 12, 2010 By Dr Malte Hozzel

The fresh, aromatic fragrance of this perennial small bush is unique in nature. Rosemary essential oil is the ‘conifer’ among the lamiacea family, uniting many of the properties of the ‘needle leaf’ oils with those of the flowering plants and making it a multiple healer with many faces.

Its effects in case of liver congestion and viral or bacterial liver infections are well documented. In addition its anti-fungal properties make it a choice oil against candida, especially when linked to Tea-tree or manuka oil. Rosemary activates arterial circulation, is an excellent cardio-tonic, helps agsinst low blood pressure and is a powerful neuro-muscular regulator and a good remedy against thermatic complaints.

Rosemary oil is widely used as a skin toner, skin detoxifier and as an additive for hair treatment and shampoos. Its warming, tonic-stimulating effects on the whole organism can easily replace a cup of coffee and wake up drowsy brains even late in the night. It increases the power of memory and concentration and instills self-confidence, courage and tenacity. It is a good oil for overcoming cold, and cramped behaviour, and for dispelling the dark and gloomy self-indulgence in suffering. A messenger of dazzling light piercing through the mist of the night.
